Canada’s prime minister raised the killing with his Indian counterpart, as relations between the two countries are set to sour even further.
| Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that “agents of the government of India” carried out the assassination of a Sikh community leader in British Columbia in June, an explosive allegation that will likely further sour relations between the two nations.
Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly later said Canada had expelled an Indian diplomat whom she described as the head of India’s intelligence agency in Canada. Citing the police investigation, neither Ms Joly nor Minister of Public Safety Dominic LeBlanc, gave details about Indian involvement in the killing. But Mr LeBlanc said Jody Thomas, Mr Trudeau’s national security adviser, as well as the head of Canada’s intelligence service, had travelled over the past few weeks “to confront the Indian intelligence agencies with these allegations”.
