The Troy softball team showcased its offensive prowess in two victories at the Trojan Classic, marking a strong start to the season. The Trojans triumphed over Central Michigan with a score of 7-4 and concluded the day with a commanding 8-2 win against Tennessee State . Throughout the two games, Troy demonstrated its offensive versatility, combining speed and power with five home runs and eight stolen bases.
Taylor McKinney emerged as a standout performer, hitting two home runs – her 26th and 27th career homers – propelling her to eighth place in the program's all-time home run list. She now trails Kelly Horne for seventh place by just five home runs. In the opening game against Central Michigan, the Trojans overcame a no-hit streak spanning four innings to erupt for a five-run fifth inning. Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Cassidy Boltz delivered a crucial three-run homer, putting Troy in the lead for good. Boltz finished the game with a 1-for-2 performance and three RBIs. Caiden Oliva, a true freshman from Ponte Vedra, Florida, made an impressive impact as a pinch hitter, going 2-for-2 with a home run. Mya Holt (1-0) secured the victory, making her first career start as a true freshman pitcher. She pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three earned runs, striking out two batters, and issuing two walks. The Trojans continued their offensive onslaught in the second game against Tennessee State, securing an 8-2 victory. Alyssa Faircloth (1-0) dominated the Tigers' offense, pitching five scoreless innings before conceding a run. She showcased her prowess by striking out six batters and allowing only four hits over six innings. Faircloth's impressive performance included 14 swings and misses in her first outing of 2025. Troy's offense demonstrated a collective effort, with four players recording multi-hit games and six players contributing RBIs. Taylor McKinney led the charge with a 2-for-3 performance, including a line drive homer. Reaghan Oney had two hits, two walks, two runs, and an RBI. Sissy Dunn and Makaley Boswell also contributed two-hit games, each driving in one run. The Trojans scored a run in five out of their six offensive innings against the Tigers, capitalizing on their momentum from the previous game.
