JON JOHNSON Troy’s top returning receiver, Chris Lewis, is undergoing treatment for a malignant tumor discovered in a mass behind his left knee, ESPN reported in a story on Tuesday.

The report says the Lewis is in the process of a 10-week chemotherapy treatment in Birmingham for osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. The treatment attempts to decrease the likelihood of the cancer spreading with hopes of potentially shrinking the tumor. He is scheduled for surgery on April 3. The mass was discovered following an MRI after Troy’s win in the Sun Belt Championship Game in December.

As a transfer from Kentucky before last season, Lewis led the Trojans with 735 yards in catches as a sophomore, including 10 touchdowns. His return for the upcoming season will depend on upcoming scans and the surgery.’ "If I can play, I'm playing," he told ESPN."It just really depends on what kind of recovery I have and how long that I have to recover before the season. If they clear me right before the season, I may sit out so my body can be in the best condition. If I have some months to train and get my body ready, I'll be out there."
