Troy Aikman weighs in on the possibility of Ezekiel Elliott receiving an honor from the Dallas Cowboys and speculates on which teams might be interested in signing the former running back.
quarterback Troy Aikman joined the Musers on Sports radio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM) Thursday to talk all things NFL . Below are highlights from the interview, edited lightly for clarity:for you Troy is when you kind of look back at his career and where he fits into Cowboys history, do you think it’s possible that Jerry Jones looks at it and maybe gives him an honor that he’s bestowed upon you ?“Yeah, wow, that’s a good question.
I don’t know what actually factors into that decision by Jerry, but possibly. I know there’s a real fondness, not only of Jerry with Ezekiel, but also the Jones family and what he’s meant to them and what he’s meant to the organization. … I saw the statement, or whatever came out, I saw it yesterday. But you know, that doesn’t happen very often. So I think that, in and of itself, pretty much tells you how much Jerry and the Cowboys and the family and everyone thinks of Zeke to do that. And it was, you know, it was a nice gesture on their part to give him an opportunity,Do you think that there is a team that could possibly have an interest in someone like an Ezekiel Elliott, maybe the Chargers?“At this stage, it would be interesting, you know, it would obviously have to be a team that’s going into the postseason, and maybe could use a running back like that. The team that jumped to mind for me was maybe Detroit. We just had them the other night, but they lost David Montgomery. He’s expected to be back, however. If he was going to be gone for the year, maybe that might make some sense, because he was good in the short yardage and goal line situations and try to take a little bit of wear and tear off Jahmyr Gibbs. But yeah, it’ll be, you know, at this stage, for a guy, you know, as far as playing time and how he was utilized, how some other teams might view him as a guy who might be able to help them in the postseason, I’m as curious as anybody to see what that might look lik
