A former 49er with a long history of alleged violence appears to have sent a threatening message to Bay Area Rep. Eric Swalwell, the congressman’s office said Wednesday.
Swalwell, a Democrat who has represented the East Bay in Congress since 2013, posted a screenshot of a Twitter direct message that appeared to be from Miller’s account. “Who is this guy threatening to execute me?” Swalwell wrote. “And how does he have so many followers?”
The message reads “Almost time!!! Would you rather Guantanamo or just execution f—kin traitor,” along with three cry-laughing emoji.The answer to Swalwell’s questions seems to be that it’s Bruce Miller, who was the 49ers’ starting fullback from 2011 to 2015. The “Guantanamo or just execution” is likely a reference to the long-running fantastical QAnon conspiracy theory that various liberal politicians and celebrities will be rounded up and possibly executed in military tribunals.
“My family and staff are deeply disturbed by the threat of execution made to me, apparently by former San Francisco 49er Bruce Miller,” Swalwell said in a statement to SFGATE and other outlets. In the statement, he criticized Republicans for being “silent about the violent environment in which we govern” and called on law enforcement to investigate.
Miller has a history of arrests in violent incidents. In 2015, he was arrested on suspicion of spousal battery in Santa Clara;
