Tropical Storm Philippe is being trailed by an area of interest coming off Africa. Another area of interest is being monitored in the Gulf of Mexico.

6:42 PM CDT August 30, 2022CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Tropical Storm Philippe in addition to two areas of interest in the Atlantic.

The area of interest trailing Philippe off Africa has a high chance of development over the next week.Credit: Kristin WallaThe area of interest in the Gulf of Mexico has a low chance of development over the next 48 hours as well as a low chance of development over the next week. Even if there's any further development, it will be slow. By later this week, upper level winds will become unfavorable for much organization. Something to watch - not worry about.Philippe is expected to maintain tropical storm status as it moves around a high pressure out in the open Atlantic. ________________________________________________________________
