Tropical Storm Ian expected to have indirect impact to Houston, National Weather Service predicts

National Weather Service

Tropical Storm Ian is predicted to turn into a hurricane this week, but it will likely only indirectly impact Houston, according to the National Weather Service. As of Sunday morning, Ian's probable path will take it over the western part of Cuba and into Florida, causing heavy rainfall, hurricane-force winds and possibly flooding as it passes through the two regions. While the storm isn't projected to turn anywhere near Texas, there could still be some minimal and indirect impact,. Possible impacts for southeast Texas include above-normal tides, increased wind and a risk of rip currents.

The storm has already caused NASA to push back the scheduled launch of Artemis I even further, moving from Sept. 27 to Oct 2. The agency said it"continues to closely monitor the weather forecast" and plans to meet Sunday night to decide whether to maintain the Oct. 2 launch attempt, or move it back more.
