The National Hurricane Center's 5pm track forecast has shifted significantly to the south, over more of the Greater Antilles. Details on this shift are in the forecast section below.Tropical storm warnings have been hoisted for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and also for the British Virgin Islands.
From there, Grace will quickly move westward or west-northwestward at 20 to 30 mph through the weekend. That speed is expected to decrease soon. This will put Grace near Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Sunday. In Haiti, where a recent major earthquake struck west of Port-au-Prince, 4-7 inches of rain is expected, with locally heavier rainfall amounts possible. Mudslides, flash flooding and road washouts are possible, especially in areas where soil is already loose due to the earthquake.The small system is expected to intensify through Sunday into a moderate tropical storm before it reaches Puerto Rico, but fluctuations in intensity are possible.
