97The National Hurricane Center is officially monitoring the first tropical storm this year in the Atlantic Ocean! Tropical Storm Andrea formed Monday at 9AM C.T.. The NHC had been monitoring this cluster of showers and thunderstorms as it organized about 900 miles east-northeast of Bermuda.This storm is expected to be very short-lived. It is currently moving to the northeast at around 10-20 mph into much cooler waters. There are also stronger upper-level winds in its path. This very hostile environment will quickly dissipate the storm. Regardless, the storm is expected to stay in the open central Atlantic Ocean.Remember, the Atlantic hurricane season lasts through November. Here in SE Texas, we see the tropical season peak in September, but we can see a storm anytime from now through the fall.
