South Houston head coach Patrick Longstreet starts his"one week vacation" from district battles by telling his guys to rest up and mend up for the two most important games on the other side of their bye date.A nine-game winning streak by South Houston against rival Sam Rayburn acted as a life preserver for the Trojans and their football state playoff hopes Thursday night.
Now with the winning streak at 10, South Houston's lead on Sam Rayburn grew to 37-22. Since the 2001 season, South Houston has won 20 of the last 22 contests. Sam Rayburn held a 20-17 advantage in the series after the 2000 game. "We needed this one to rebound in the worst way and we were able to get it. We were able to move the ball pretty well. Kam did a good job running. We executed really well on both sides of the ball," said Longstreet, who needs one more win to elbow his way into the top 25 for most wins by a Pasadena ISD football coach and knock Rayburn's Denny Swenson out of the Top 25.
"I tell our guys all the time that if we play the way we can, we can play with anybody in the district. We'll correct some of our mistakes and see if we're ready to go in two weeks," Longstreet said.
