High temperatures will be near 104 degrees at DFW International Airport Thursday, the weather service said.
The weather service issued an excessive heat warning effect for the region through 9 p.m. Thursday and urged people working or spending time outside to take extra precautions.Since Monday, emergency crews for MedStar, which serves Fort Worth and its surrounding area, have treated 30 people for heat-related illnesses, with 18 sent to area hospitals, spokesman Matt Zavadsky said Wednesday evening. Eleven people were treated on Wednesday alone, with eight transported to hospitals.
Dallas Fire-Rescue has responded to 19 environmental emergency calls — or calls in response to environmental conditions, such as extreme weather — since Sunday, with nine people sent to local hospitals, spokesman Jason Evans said. Triple-digit temperatures are forecast through Saturday, with lows in the 80s. The weather service said the main forecast concerns include daily elevated fire danger.Sunday may provide some relief from 100-degree weather and also bring a chance of storms before temperatures rise once again next week, according to the weather service’s forecast..
