High atmospheric pressure will take control of the weather this week with loads of sunshine and a touch of extreme heat.
The streak of days below 100 degrees in San Antonio persisted this past weekend as another rare summer cold front moved through Texas. We saw some clouds and even a little bit of rain as temperatures stayed just shy of the century mark with daily highs of 99 degrees both Saturday and Sunday. We've almost reached 30 consecutive days below 100 degrees, which is vastly different from the record 23-day streak of 100-degree temperatures last year at this same time.
Texas county rocked by 62 earthquakes in a week. Here’s where. Today's forecast The reprieve from the heat over the weekend soon will be long gone as a large area of high atmospheric pressure produces what's commonly known as a heat dome, as it expands over Texas. High pressure leads to sinking air, which then acts like a pot lid that prevents warm air at the surface from rising up into the cooler heights of the atmosphere, where the air can condense to form clouds and rain.
