A family has paid tribute to two ‘loving’ and ‘beautiful’ 16-year-old girls who died after they were hit by a van. Sylvie Bates and Martha Swift, from Lichfield, Staffordshire, were struck by the driver of a white Vauxhall vivaro van in Whittington, Staffordshire, at 10.25pm on May 29. Both girls were taken to hospital with serious injuries but Sylvie died on May 31 and Martha died on June 2.
In a joint tribute, the families of both teenagers said: ‘We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful and loving daughters and sisters.Staffordshire Police has appealed for information from the public who may have witnessed the incident.Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at
