Tribute to Jessie Duarte: Mbeki’s words are the truth ANC needs | Former president Thabo Mbeki lamented the reputation of the party at the hands of leaders who are consistently accused of corruption
His speech was delivered with political sobriety and maturity. It was not a personal attack on anyone but an objective assessment of the state of the governing party.
The ability to say such a huge statement with the calmness he had certifies the eldership of the man. In another brutal assessment of the ANC’ stagnation, Mbeki slammed the renewal project being chanted by the ANC leadership in an effort to sanitise the image and reputation of the party. The situation could have improved when all the restrictions were finally lifted but it was a conference year in the ANC and opposing factions were using that.
