El Tribunal Supremo de Justicia de Venezuela suspendió el lunes todo el proceso electoral primario de la oposición, incluido su resultado, en el último desafío del gobierno de Nicolás Maduro a sus adversarios antes de las elecciones presidenciales de 2024.
El tribunal dictaminó que la contienda de la oposición del 22 de octubre puede violar la ley. No quedó claro de inmediato si la suspensión resultaría efectivamente en la anulación de la votación. The Associated Press no pudo solicitar de inmediato una aclaración al jefe de la Comisión Nacional de Primarias cuando ingresó a la oficina del fiscal general minutos después de que se emitiera el fallo.
Más de 2,4 millones de venezolanos en el país y en el extranjero votaron, incluso en áreas que alguna vez fueron consideradas bastiones del partido gobernante. El tribunal ordenó a los organizadores entregar todas las papeletas, actas de escrutinio y otros documentos bajo el argumento de que la contienda independiente puede violar la ley.
