Redshirt freshman Trey Moore growing into stalwart outside linebacker for UTSA
UTSA linebacker Trey Moore shows his versatility by preventing a pass completion in last week’s game against Texas.When coach Jeff Traylor checked his phone after UTSA’s season-opening loss to Houston, one of the first messages that caught his eye was from redshirt freshman Trey Moore.
For Traylor, the moment was another reminder of the attitude and maturity that have helped Moore claim a starting spot at outside linebacker. But after praying and considering his options, Moore said he “instead tried to take the route that I thought God had led me down,” accepting Traylor’s late offer to sign with UTSA.
Rivals never added him to the Roadrunners’ 2021 class, with his profile still showing him as a two-star Army commit as of this week. 247Sports tacked Moore on to UTSA’s class but never ranked him, leaving him as the only zero-star prospect in the Roadrunners’ 2021 group. “This spring, that’s when I finally got my first glimpse at him, and this dude is crazy,” Sam linebacker Dadrian Taylor said before UTSA’s 2022 opener. “He looks like a brick wall, and he plays like it, too. He’s super athletic. That’s the crazy thing that blows my mind about him.”
