.Trevornoah is leaving TheDailyShow, says his ‘time is up’
Noah, 38, took over for Jon Stewart as host on Comedy Central in 2015 as the youngest host of the late-night talk shows.“I realized after the seven years, my time is up, but in the most beautiful way,” Noah told the audience Thursday. “I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly s***ty on the worst days.
The South African-born comedian explained that his return to stand-up during the pandemic show hiatus caused him to realize he wanted to explore other aspects of his life. Noah is touring on the weekends to perform Trevor Noah: Back to Abnormal. Noah thanked the show’s team and Comedy Central for their support and said he did not know exactly when he would be stepping away.Noah’s work with The Daily Show has garnered a Peabody Award and five consecutive Emmy nominations for best variety talk series. In 2017, he won the Emmy for outstanding short-form variety series.His announcement comes as the look of late-night talk show comedy continues to change.
While host of the show, Noah’s fandom and popularity rose, bringing him opportunities, such as being asked to emcee the White House Correspondents' Association dinner and appear twice as host of the Grammy Awards.
