Speaker Craig Coughlin is pushing a plan that will widen the gap between rich and poor, and between Black and white.
Assembly speaker Craig Coughlin is pushing a plan to help seniors pay property taxes, but it would give $10,000 to the richest families in the state, and pennies to the poor.Republicans drive me nuts when they give the richest families the biggest tax breaks, and then do nothing to cover the costs, leaving a giant mess behind.
The skew towards the wealthy is the easy part of this debate because it’s so crazy. Every other program to help seniors, or to help property taxpayers generally, hasThe governor’s Anchor rebate program is the most permissive, providing help to families earning up to $250,000. The senior freeze program is reserved for those earning up to about $100,000.
