Tree branches are littered across the hill country after ice from this week’s storm caused branches to break. Some of those branches struck power lines causing outages across Texas.

The Pedernales Electric Cooperative outage map shows crews are still working to restore the power North of Bulverde.

As the lights came back on, Bulverde homeowners like Jimmy Hayden say they were working around the clock to clean up the mess. “There’s so much more damage involved. Especially understanding what the ice can do versus just the snow,” Hayden said. “The damage side of it has been, you know, a lot to deal with for sure.”

The Hayden family told KSAT they started their cleanup Thursday, adding that finding the right equipment was the first challenge as stores were low on tree trimmers and chainsaws. “It was like a madhouse. There were people everywhere, and luckily me and [my son] got to pick up the last two that they had on the shelves,” Hayden said., which is a temporary, no-cost drop-off station open now until next Saturday, Feb. 11.Camelia Juarez is a news reporter at KSAT 12. She joined the station in 2022. Camelia comes from a station in Lubbock, Texas. Now, she is back in her hometown. She received her degree from Texas State University.
