UTSA coach Jeff Traylor said the Roadrunners still trail some of the top NIL bases in the American Athletic Conference, but work to close that gap is constant.

As UTSA battled Marshall in the Frisco Bowl last year, coach Jeff Traylor considered dialing up a screen play for freshman tight end Patrick Overmyer , then had a change of heart. “I think he would’ve scored, and I nixed the play,” Traylor said. “If they would’ve seen him run like he can run, somebody would’ve got in the transfer portal, and the NIL offer would’ve been so high that I wouldn’t have been able to keep him.

Q: The fundraising conversation seems to have changed quite a bit from when it used to be about the practice facility or operational funding. A: Those are still just as prominent. There are some people, that’s what they want to talk about. I'm still trying to get that pavilion named by somebody. There's no doubt. I'm on a mission for that, too. I’m hoping that $57 million we have coming, somehow coach Traylor and the Roadrunners fit in that equation somehow.
