Transnet's Free State pipeline closure drives up costs for SA's fuel importers

Importing bulk fuel in the Free State has become even more expensive following Transnet's decommissioning of the Sasolburg-Kroonstad pipeline in December.

Industry body the South African Petroleum Industry Association has said the closure has negatively impacted transport costs and logistics, with importers forced to use trucks to transport their refined products. Originally commissioned in 1965, the pipeline formed part of the 12-inch Durban-Johannesburg Pipeline used to transport petrol and diesel from local refineries to Ladysmith, Bethlehem and Kroonstad.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
