Transnet has appointed company insider Mohammed Mahomedy as its second acting chief executive in less than seven months.
Transnet, which operates nearly three-quarters of Africa's rail network, the bulk of which is in South Africa, is looking into allegations of corruption in the procurement of diesel and electric locomotives.
It did not give a reason, but thanked Morwe for his good work. Morwe could not immediately be reached for comment. "Transnet is working towards filling critical vacancies that currently exist at executive level, including that of the Group Chief Executive and Group Chief Financial Officer, in the coming months," it said.
