Authorities say a freight train derailment in Old Forge forced several railcars off the tracks but did not pose a danger to the public. Emergency crews were called to the Moosic Road railroad crossing late Monday morning after a northbound Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad train derailed along the Pittston-to-Scranton branch line.

Officials report that both a through freight train and a yard job operating on the Taylor Branch were involved at the time of the incident. According to emergency management officials, eight loaded railcars and 15 empty railcars were affected. Some of the cars tipped onto their sides near the crossing, though Moosic Road remained open to traffic throughout the response. Officials confirmed no hazardous materials were involved and there was no risk to public safety or the environment.
