Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions asked Senate challenger and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville to face him in 5 debates before the July runoff for the Republican nomination

In a statement Tuesday, Tuberville declined the offer, saying Sessions “seems like he already has his hands fullTrump, who remains livid at Sessions for recusing himself from the Department of Justice’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, has endorsed Tuberville. Sessions’ call is similar to one made by incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Cory Gardner, of Colorado, who has called for five debates against the eventual Democratic nominee, with polls showing the seat willWhoever comes out ahead in the July 14 runoff, which was rescheduled from March 31, will get to face Democratic incumbent Doug Jones in November.
