People are urged to remember the dangers of cold water shock and swimming as temperatures rise.

Lots of people, young and old, have lost their lives when getting into difficulty in the water on a hot day.

Emergency services were called to the park in Sheffield - which has a large lake in its centre - at 7.31pm on Sunday, July 18, 2021 following reports a man had got into difficulty in the water. Tragically, South Yorkshire Police confirmed on the following Monday morning, July 19, a body had been found just before midnight.

Police in West Yorkshire issued a warning at the time to people about the dangers posed by open water after the death of the 15-year-old boy. With the hot weather, there have been more reports of people entering canals and other open water spaces, but Detective Chief Inspector Tony Nicholson said that there can be many hidden dangers.
