Three students from Hollister High School tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Gilroy on Tuesday night. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. when a vehicle traveling west on Shore Road, west of Lake Road, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an eastbound car. The impact proved fatal for the driver and two rear passengers of the first vehicle, all identified as Hollister High School students.
The San Benito High School District confirmed the deaths of 17-year-old Anzhel Villegas-Lemus, 18-year-old Brandon Alarcon, and 17-year-old Victor Lujan. A fourth occupant of the vehicle was airlifted to a hospital, along with the driver and passenger of the other vehicle. The San Benito County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash. Hollister High School Principal Kevin Medeiros expressed profound grief over the loss, stating, 'This loss is profoundly felt by all of us. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of these individuals. We know that this news will have a significant impact on our students, staff, and the broader community.' CHP Captain Noel Coady emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws, highlighting the serious consequences that arise from negligence.
