PUTRAJAYA: The traffic volume went up significantly on the first day of the recovery movement control order (MCO) on Wednesday (June 10), say the authorities.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Thursday said Plus recorded almost 100% increase in traffic on its highways on Wednesday with over 2 million vehicles compared to 1.2 million vehicles on Tuesday.

He said the number of vehicles on Karak Highway on Wednesday was 85,985 vehicles, compared to 37,789 the day before.“Police will monitor traffic on highways, which is anticipated to be high over the coming days, especially on weekends, ” he said.“Remember that your loved ones are waiting for you, ” he said.

The minister also said that police would be stationed at rest and recreation spots to ensure standard operating procedures were observed. The police are anticipating higher traffic volume on highways and major roads across the country from June 12 to 14, as people take the opportunity to return to their hometowns in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
