KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on major expressways is smooth on the second day of permitted interstate travel as people from Perak, Johor and Kelantan make the journey to their respective destinations, says Deputy Comm Datuk Azisman Alias.

The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director said no major congestion had been reported so far on Friday .

"We are monitoring the traffic situation from time to time. So far, it is under control and no major problems have occurred," he said. Authorities have set May 7-10 for those stranded in their hometowns to make the journey back to their respective homes. A total of 70,538 applications were approved by the police for people to return to their homes from Perak, Johor and Kelantan on Friday."Traffic on the first day of the interstate travel was smooth too, especially along Jalan Duta and the Gombak toll plaza. While the police have withdrawn their roadblocks along the highways to facilitate traffic movement, DCP Azisman said they had instead set up seven control posts along the highways.

"The control posts function as a means for police to monitor the traffic situation and assist if there are traffic problems. However, DCP Azisman said roadblocks would be conducted by the respective state and district police contingents on federal and state roads. He also advised motorists travelling to drive safely and refrain from speeding.
