NEW!A proposed mixed-use development in Derry Township is raising concerns about increased congestion in an already heavily traveled area.
Ronald Blumberg, owner of Ron’s Barber Shop off Fishburn Road, said new road configurations associated with the project are designed to suit the developer but will limit access to his shop by 50%. Governor Crossing will have three access points, including a single right-hand lane entrance off West Governor Road, according to plans. Also under proposal is moving Sand Hill Road about 300 feet south and adding a traffic light at the intersection with Fishburn Road. An existing left-hand turn lane on Fishburn Road for turns onto West Governor Road would be extended.
“It is going to impact us and I imagine it will make it more difficult for our families. I just don’t know how much of an impact,” said Doug Miller, co-owner of Seedlings Academy along Fishburn Road. “Obviously, there are many situations throughout Pennsylvania that have signals spaced closer. These details are worked out on a case by case scenario through a detailed traffic study such as a transportation impact study,” Thompson said.
