The Western Cape Education Department has confirmed the deaths of five schoolchildren in a traffic accident on AZ Berman Drive in Mitchells Plain this morning, 30 May 2023.
, the victims were travelling in a bakkie when it collided with another vehicle near Beacon Valley at the intersection of AZ Berman Drive and Kerrem Street, causing the bakkie to roll multiple times.reports that medics discovered an upright bakkie in the middle of the road. The victims, aged 13 to 16, were found scattered a short distance away from the bakkie.
Paramedics reportedly treated the critical patient and performed numerous advanced life support interventions on him before transporting him to a nearby hospital for urgent care. The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown; however, Kevin Jacobs, a spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Traffic Services, has stated that traffic authorities are present at the scene to conduct further investigations.
