Tracy man to receive up to one year in jail for fatal Newark crash

He killed 40-year-old Michael Thomas in a 2020 crash in Newark, police say.

DUBLIN — A Tracy man has pleaded no contest to killing a motorcyclist in a 2020 crash, but his sentencing is to-be-determined.

Brent Collom, 49, pleaded no contest last May to a vehicular manslaughter charge in the death of 40-year-old Michael Thomas, of Palo Alto. At his Aug. 29 sentencing date, he faces up to one year in county jail, and as little as a probation term, court records show.with manslaughter, drunk driving causing injury, and driving while legally drunk. Police said he drove a BMW into a motorcycle Thomas was driving, and that Thomas’ passenger, a woman, was also injured.
