Vallerie, believed to be the Kennedy’s first state-medalist in track and field, leaned in ahead of Teresa Malone of Houston Washington to claim silver. Vallerie said she specializes in the 200 and was coaxed to run the 400 by her coaches. That factored into her amazement.
