9 a.m.: 6A/1A 3,200 runs and field eventsBy his standards, Pinones hasn’t performed with the consistency he wants. However, at the area and regional meets, he showed the ability to pop big throws in the clutch. He faces the ultimate test in his final high school competition.Here are some other storylines to follow this weekend.Randolph sophomore Taylor Nunez is in line to win gold medals, a feat she accomplished last year as the Ro-Hawks claimed the Class 3A girls state team championship.
Nunez set a 3A meet record in the 100-meter dash , won the 200 dash, the long jump and anchored the Ro-Hawks to victory in the 400 relay. Nunez enters this year’s competition as the top seed in the long jump , which is the best qualifying distance across all classifications. She is also tops in the 100 dash and the 200 dash . She anchors the top-seeded Ro-Hawks’ 400 relay with sophomore Jaela Smith, senior Cai Rogers and senior Jourdann Cathro.
Nunez loves performing at Myers Stadium. At last month’s Texas Relays, she set a meet record in the 100 dash and won the long jump.Randolph has potential to add big points with sophomore Sophia Bendet in the 1,600 and 800 runs, where they are seeded first and second, respectively.Brennan senior Armando Acevedo, Boerne junior Kendall Lemm of Boerne and Canyon Lake senior Alencia Lentz hold top seeds in their events.
Acevedo has the only 7-0 qualifying clearance in the boys high jump for all classes and has improved considerably after marking 6-4 and finishing ninth last year at state.
