First off, these engine have a capacity of 1.5-liters and 2.0-liters. While Toyota isn’t going all in on EVs, the world’s largest car company isn’t blind to electrification. After all, it was one of the companies that got the ball rolling with hybrids alongside Honda. With that, these engines are modular and ready to be electrified. At the same time, these cars have greater flex-fuel capabilities. With more countries going for ethanol mixes, it’s Toyota’s way of future-proofing the engine. But those aren’t the only reasons why the new engines are a big deal.The new 1.5-liter engine will replace most of the 3-cylinder engines in other markets. It gains a cylinder, and yet it’s 10% shorter and narrower.
