Car and Driver reported that rumors of the Celica's return have floated around for years since Toyota sold its last Celica in the States back in 2005. The rumors gained momentum in 2023 when Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda said he wanted to revive the Japanese compact sports car.Best Car asked Toyoda if the Celica would return to production. Instead of answering, however, Toyoda passed the question to Toyota's Executive Vice President Yuki Nakajima, who reportedly said:According to Car and Driver, the Celica's return was hinted in a recent episode of the brand'sThe outlet reported that a whiteboard hidden in the back of a shot lists shows a number of Toyota performance vehicles, including an eighth-generation Celica and a fourth-generation MR2.
