Rossendale Borough Council had been discussing the possibility of charging for parking
A row has broken out after prospective plans to introduce car parking charges in a Rossendale town centre have been dropped. It comes after Rossendale Borough Council had been considering introducing the fee for Rawtenstall shopping area.The U-turn has been welcomed by Rossendale and Darwen Conservative MP Sir Jake Berry. He was part of a campaign against the move and started a petition against it signed by hundreds of residents.
“I am delighted that Rossendale Council have, for once, made the sensible decision not to charge people to park in the town centre. Thank you to everyone who signed my free parking petition, it’s only because of this public pressure that we’ve been able to make the council see sense.”
