'Someone is going around Lytham putting googly eyes on the Martin Kemp posters. It’s a hotbed of crime here'
Lytham is well-known for its historic windmill, charming shops and high-quality eateries. It's a town associated with typical middle-class English quintessence.To cut a long story short, posters of 80s heartthrob and star of one of Britain's most beloved bands, Martin Kemp, have been vandalised by an unknown crook.
The Spandau Ballet bassist is coming to Lytham's Lowther Pavilion later this year, but perhaps some people aren't True fans. Sadly, Kemp's face face has been vandalised with googly eyes.At least three posters are believed to have been defaced - including opposite the Lowther Pavilion and on the railings of Cypress Point. According to reports, the googly eye bandit has also targeted several more in the Fylde area.
Following a sold out show earlier this year, Kemp will be returning to the seaside town for another 'Ultimate Back to the 80's Party'. The next event will take place on November 1 and will also include special guests. Talking about the shows on ITV's This Morning, Kemp said: "It’s amazing! People absolutely lose themselves, singing to every word. It’s the most euphoric atmosphere I have ever been in, in my life!"
Reacting to the spate of vandalism on social media, one resident branded Lytham a "hotbed of crime". Kate Gilligan posted: "Someone is going around Lytham putting googly eyes on the Martin Kemp posters. It’s a hotbed of crime here."However, most residents seem to have found the funny side of the joke, saying the eyes have "tickled me" and one simply wrote, "Gold".
