The Tower Fire burning near Scipio, Utah, grew to nearly 1,300 acres as of Monday morning, June 8, 2026. The Tower Fire that started near Scipio in Millard County grew overnight to an estimated 1,280 acres and remains only 10% contained.
The human-caused fire was first reported just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, right off I-15, and quickly grew to over 1,000 acres. Utah Fire Info said crews were conducting suppression efforts, including aerial water and retardant drops.
"Aerial resources and dozer line construction are making good progress along the flanks and in the lower country," Utah Fire Info said in its latest update provided Sunday evening. State Route 50 was initially closed in both directions due to the fire, but UDOT has since reopened the highway for traffic.
The Millard County Sheriff's Office asked the public to avoid 100 West and 300 West in Scipio, saying, "We must keep these routes entirely clear for water trucks and emergency vehicle access.
" The Sheriff's Office also asked the public not to stop and take photos or video of the fire and to keep drones out of the surrounding airspace. "Thank you for your immediate cooperation and for helping us keep our firefighters safe," the Millard County Sheriff's Office said. The Tower Fire was the third fire to start this past weekend. Two other fires were reported on Lake Mountain in Saratoga Springs.
The Glambert Lane Fire was first reported on Saturday and was reported as 95% as of the most recent update, having burned an estimated 170 acres. The Stillwater Fire, which was first reported Sunday, was last mapped at about 30 acres and 35% contained. A Red Flag Warning was issued for more than half the state of Utah on Monday morning as strong south winds, hot temperatures, and dry conditions create critical fire weather conditions.
