Trojans shut down Southwest in second half, rally for victory
Despite entering Friday’s game against Southwest-San Diego with a record of just 1-4, Castle Park High was a confident team.
“Our schedule really made a difference,” said Castle Park coach Paco Silva of his schedule which has featured mostly teams from Division III and IV including RBV, Calexico and Orange Glen. “Virtually every team we played so far this year had a part in the playoffs a year ago and for the most part we’ve played them tough. It really paid off heading into league.
It was Simler’s second TD of the game. He registered the game’s first score on a 78 yards pass from Villarreal with 1:57 left in the opening quarter.Simler finished with 57 yards rushing on eight carries and a TD. Jalen Hopkins, who ended up leading all rushers with 96 yards on 11 carries, 50 of which came on a breakaway with 2:35 left to play. On the night, Castle Park amassed 261 yards rushing on 30 carries.
