The NSW government is warning that tough calls that are likely to be hugely unpopular have been made in its looming budget.
A string of arts, cultural and innovation programs – including a scheme to attract high-end screen production to NSW – will be stripped of almost $190 million in funding as part of sweeping cuts in this month’s state budget.
Mookhey has maintained NSW Treasury briefings have revealed the government has a $7 billion funding “black hole” that it will have to plug through major spending cuts, which will include key cultural and innovation programs. The hugely popular Jurassic World by Brickman Lego exhibition at the Australian Museum last year, which broke visitor records, was funded through the blockbuster initiative.
