Tory councillor reduced to tears over 'shameful leaflet' as Labour says claim isn't about her
A Labour Party election leaflet has left an 81-year-old Conservative councillor in tears a borough boss has been told.
Cllr Slater, who alleges this is an unjustified slur on Cllr Salton, has made official complaints to the the police and the Electoral Commission. But Cllr Matt Jackson, agent for Labour’s candidate Anthony Shaw, has said the leaflet does not refer to Cllr Salton but to former ward councillor Andrew Walker, originally elected as a Conservative who was suspended by the party and sat as an independent before being disqualified for failing to attend council meetings.
“If you had any sense of morals or common decency, the Labour Party would withdraw this shameful leaflet immediately and issue an apology. I hope you are happy with how much you have upset this wonderful 81-year-old lady.” Meanwhile Darwen West Labour councillor Brian Taylor has complained about Darwen Tory MP Sir Jake Berry’s ‘Reporting Back’ leaflet which says that ‘thanks to Jake, the Town Deal has £100 million to regenerate Darwen’.
