Changes to the Energy Bill in Parliament would make it all but impossible to build solar farms on nearly half of all English farmland, potentially leaving the UK reliant on expensive gas imports
, and putting even more barriers in place to its rollout will cost the public dear, whilst locking in dependence on imported gas.
To hit its own targets for solar generation capacity, the Government must quintuple the amount installed to 70GW by 2035., the ECIU estimates that around 34GW of the target will need to be ground-built solar in England. Instead, it would require ministers to publish “plans and incentives” for building-mounted and brownfield solar sites.
