Tornadoes touched down all over the northern part of Arkansas this past weekend including two that hit Paragould on Sunday.
The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down here in Paragould over the weekend. You can see just behind me line workers, who have been working feverishly all day since I’ve been in Paragould working on two poles at the intersection of Pruetts Chapel and Rockingchair.
The first tornado on Sunday was an EF-2 with estimated peak winds of 120 miles per hour. This tornado lasted about 7 minutes and traveled 3.5 miles according to the National Weather Service’s preliminary damage survey. Many homes along Highway 412, Pruetts Chapel Road, and Rockingchair Road saw minor damage to their roofs and countless trees were uprooted as you can see on your screen. A handful of buildings suffered complete destruction while a few homes saw major roof damage.
The second tornado was an EF-1 and occurred less than 20 minutes after the first. This tornado traveled along the Greene and Craighead county lines mostly damaging poles, trees, while at least one building was destroyed.
