Scottish Water have installed the facilities in Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse and Mabie Forest
The Scottish Water facility dispensed 2,036 litres of water between May and August, cutting down on the need for single-use plastic bottles.
A similar tap in Kirkcudbright dispensed 251 litres, with nearly 8,500 litres dispensed from a tap in Mabie Forest. Scottish Water’s director of corporate affairs, Brian Lironi, said: “It’s brilliant that so many locals and visitors alike are using our top up taps in such numbers. “But nothing would make us happier than seeing them used even more. There couldn’t be many better reasons for carrying a refillable water bottle and topping up when you’re out and about – it’s good for your health, good for your pocket and good for the planet.”
