George Norcross spoke to NJ Advance Media on Monday.
said Monday he may sue the team and the NFL, telling NJ Advance Media the way the incident unfolded was “astonishing.”
A stadium source told NJ Advance Media on Sunday night that Norcross violated a longstanding policy prohibiting banners being displayed at the Eagles’ home, Lincoln Financial Field.that has circulated on social media. The banner — a combination of the American and Israeli flags — was draped at the front of a private box where Norcross was watching the game. He sat the front of the luxury suite with former New Jersey Gov.
The Eagles have not responded to a request for comment. The stadium source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Norcross was approached and told about the policy and that he would need to remove it or leave the property. Norcross was verbally and physically abusive to those stadium representatives and law enforcement on site, the source said.Norcross released a statement Monday saying he was “forcibly removed and assaulted” by security staff, not Philadelphia police.
Norcross told NJ Advance Media that Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, who was watching the game in a different box, asked him to remove the flag. He said the Eagles had asked Kenney to get involved. Kenney’s spokeswoman Sarah Peterson said the mayor stopped by Norcross’ suite to “speak to Mr. Norcross as a friend about the facility’s flag policy.’
A spokeswoman for Philadelphia police told NJ Advance Media that city police officers simply assist private security at the stadium and it’s unlikely there would have been a police report because those are usually produced only when something criminal happens. “Here, they sent a bunch of thugs in to remove an Israeli-American flag. ... Somebody there wanted to act like King Kong.”
