The Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) has publicly condemned the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for its handling of the supposed “bullying of journalists”.

Australia's top media union has launched a blistering attack on the ABC and Peter Dutton over a reporter's wild question to the Opposition Leader on pro-Hezbollah protests. The Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance has publicly condemned the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for its handling of the supposed “bullying of journalists”.

Mr Dutton expressed disappointment the ABC seemed to question the government’s designation of Hezbollah as a terrorist group. In a statement responding to the fallout, the MEAA’s National Media Section committee said it"stand with Anushri Sood and her ABC colleagues to condemn the intimidation and bullying of journalists".In the exchange, Mr Dutton rebuked the comparison of Israel and Hezbollah made by Ms Sood and hit back at the questioning of Hezbollah's listing as a terrorist organisation.

The union claimed it was a"watershed moment" for the national broadcaster and political leaders to recognise the role"diverse media" plays in news coverage. ABC management had previously told SkyNews.com.au that Ms Sood’s commentary was not official policy or reporting. Despite this, the MEAA’s own code of journalistic ethics asserted reporters should “not allow personal interest, or any belief… to undermine your accuracy, fairness or independence”.In her questioning to the Opposition Leader, Ms Sood appeared to suggest Australians who display the Israeli flag should face criminal charges under the hate symbols legislation. While Hezbollah has been listed as a terrorist organisation by the Australian government since 2003.
