Imran Hussain has quit the Labour front bench A shadow minister has resigned over Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer’s stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Imran Hussain is MP for Bradford East and announced he is quitting his role as shadow minister for the new deal for working people – as he wants to ‘strongly advocate’ for a ceasefire. Mr Hussain had been on Labour’s front bench for eight years and said he is resigning with ‘a heavy heart’.
He said: ‘It has become clear that my view on the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza differs substantially from the position you have adopted.’ Sir Keir is has been struggling to maintain discipline within the party over the Israel-Hamas war, with at least 16 shadow ministers calling for a ceasefire or sharing others on social media. Around 30 councillors have resigned over Labour’s stance on the crisis, including the leader of Burnley council.
