Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell expresses interest in reviving the dormant Captain Planet movie project Leonardo DiCaprio is producing.

Glen Powell wants to revive the scrapped Captain Planet movie. Previously known for his roles in the Fox series Scream Queens and Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!!, Powell recently gained widespread recognition for starring in one of the biggest movies of 2022, Top Gun: Maverick, as Lieutenant Jake Seresin, the talented and cocky pilot with the callsign Hangman who heroically saves Tom Cruise's Maverick and Miles Teller's Rooster during the movie's thrilling third-act.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Powell expressed interest in reviving the Captain Planet movie. Though the status of the scrapped project depends on the ongoing leadership shakeup at Warner Bros. Discovery, the Top Gun: Maverick star thinks the superhero movie could be greenlit soon since Leonardo DiCaprio, who is attached as a producer, is still "super passionate about it.

I think those conversations will be happening shortly. I know DiCaprio is super passionate about it. I'm super passionate about it. I think it could be great... I want that one to work. I'd love to play that superhero.Everything We Know About The Captain Planet Movie In 2016, Powell became attached to the Captain Planet movie, which he would star in and co-write alongside Jono Matt .

After making some initial progress, the Captain Planet movie would lay dormant for several years without any updates, leading to the belief it had been scrapped. Powell's recent update is the first in several years and a somewhat optimistic one that sounds like the movie could be greenlit very soon.

However, as Powell mentions, the fate of the Captain Planet movie is ultimately in the hands of Warner Bros. Discovery and its recently revamped leadership. Luckily for him, the Captain Planet movie is just one of many projects Powell is lining up post-Top Gun: Maverick. His next film is Hitman, which he co-wrote along with Richard Linklater, and Powell will soon start filming Prime Video's upcoming Butch and Sundance series.
