Tom Cruise will strap in and pilot the new film, which is set to spearhead the newly merged Paramount's film slate. However, details are slim; we don't know who'll star alongside Cruise or who'll be directing. As announced at CinemaCon earlier this year, Tom Cruise is returning to star in Top Gun 3. Joining him is super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced both the original Top Gun and its belated 2022 sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.
Ehren Kruger, one of three co-writers of the Maverick script, has been reported to be penning the screenplay for the sequel. However, it's not clear who will be joining them. Director Joseph Kosinski clearly has a rapport with Cruise, having directed him in both Maverick and the science fiction actioner Oblivion.
However, he may not be available; he's set to direct both a UFO conspiracy thriller penned by Zach Baylin and Miami Vice '85, a big-screen reboot of the iconic cop show starring Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan. It's also not clear if any of Maverick's other cast members, including Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, or Miles Teller, will be returning
