OverActive Media partnered with Splyce Gaming to create the Toronto Defiant in an August 2018 deal worth $35 million, according to Sports Business Daily. OverActive Media acquired Splyce to operate the team through a subsequent deal in November 2018, and also acquired the MAD Lions Esports Club, a Spanish organization, in May 2019.
In April 2020, OverActive Media confirmed that employees had been laid off after the Overwatch League and Call of Duty League announced they would shift to online competition for the remainder of the 2020 season. Up to 13 employees may have been laid off, according to The Esports Observer. ReKTGlobal is an international gaming and esports company with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Charlotte, London, and Berlin.
